Free diver Peter Davies doesn’t do it alone

I’m not someone who is happy with his current level of abilities.

Why don’t you want to take oxygen with you when you dive?

Too much equipment to worry about. Just get some fins and a mask then get down low…

What shouldn’t people do when freediving?

Be alone. How else can you show someone how good you are if no one is there to see it? And, who wants to be lonely anyway?

Why doesn’t the danger of freediving put you off?

Because of having a competent dive buddy, quality training and keeping within my own limits. Nothing can go wrong when these three things line up.

What don’t you think about when underwater?

Anything that is happening above the water. When your down there all matters is the experience. You are totally in the moment.

To finish, a hypothetical: if you had the power to transform into a sea creature tomorrow, what wouldn’t you choose to be?

A Sardine. I mean lets face it, your whole purpose in life is to be food for something else. Then if the dolphins don’t get you; the humans will, and pack you tightly with a bunch of your mates. Don’t get me wrong, I like my mates, but not keen on bumping man-thighs.

Flattr this!

This has inspired a new painting idea…mermaid style. VERY cool article…also, very scary!

Mermaid-style? Sounds promising. And yes, I won’t be free diving in a hurry, that’s for sure.
